NOTE 1: There are three principal guidelines that apply to all of the fallen so inscribed on the memorial.

  1. The name of the fallen from a particular county is based upon the record of the county in which service member entered service.   Alternatively, this is their home of record county, or where the immediate family members live.
  2. Worldwide military deaths are those occurring while a service member is on active duty with a military organization in any location during the dates indicated or a subsequent death due to wounds incurred during the dates indicated.
  3. Military deaths in a theater of operations are those occurring while a service member is on active duty with a military organization in a location within the active theater of operations. For example, for the Vietnam War and all subsequent wars and conflicts to the present date, military deaths are those which occur in the theater of operations in the waters and countries adjacent to South Vietnam, or Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, as designated by the Department of Defense at that time and for the dates indicated.

NOTE 2:  Source of listing American Battle Monuments Commission for the dates for the First and Second World Wars, and Korea.  US Army Center of Military History is the source for the inclusive dates of the first Gulf War and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

POLICY FOR ADDITIONS:

Consideration to allow a veteran’s name, who died in service to our country in the defined theater of conflict, to be added to the memorial is offered if the individual grew up, lived in one of our six counties or immediate family members are residents.  Our region is defined as Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia Counties.  There may be circumstances of enlistment or commissioning whereby a resident from our six-county region entered service from a location outside of our region.
